The Seven Wonders of the Modern World - First Entry.

The Seven Wonders of the Modern World.

The Seven Wonders of the Modern World are unique, absolutely incredible and magnificent buildings, which their significance, level of engineering involved, or even historical and social context make them so special and irreplaceable. Due to this, The Seven Wonders of the Modern World represent the peak of different cultures throughout the modern human history. In this blog, I will be ranking them, in my opinion, from worst to best. I will also explain each one of them deeply and make a statement about how, exactly, they are so important and should be preserved by following the format of Opinion, History About the Wonder, and Importance and Significance.

Seventh Position – Machu Picchu.

The Machu Picchu is an Inca citadel built in the 15th century, located in the Eastern Cordillera of southern Peru, on a 2,430-metre (7,970 ft.) mountain ridge. Talking from a point of view far from the historical, I think the Machu Picchu is the less stunning out of all the wonders. Even though it involves a perfect arrangement of rocks, which is more than impressive, for me, their edifications are too low and similar to each other, consequently making it difficult to me to find one that stands out from the rest.

About the Wonder:

The Machu Picchu has three primary structures: the Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, and the Room of the Three Windows. The effort made in their reconstruction are still ongoing in order to give the tourists a better idea of how they originally looked.

History:

Historians believe the Machu Picchu was built at the height of the Inca Empire, which dominated western South America in the 15th and 16th centuries. Construction origins during the governance of two great Inca rulers, Pachacutec Inca Yupanqui (1438–1471) and Túpac Inca Yupanqui (1472–1493). Furhtermore, archeologists agree on Pachacutec having ordered the construction of the royal estate for himself, most likely after a successful military campaign. Research suggests that rooms at the Inca citadel were probably built and occupied from the mid-15th to the early or mid-16th century. Bingham, the one who re-discovered the Machu Picchu suggested in 1912 that it was a sanctuary for the Virgins of the Sun (the Chosen Women), an elite Inca group, due Several dozen skeletons being excavated and initially identified as female. However, with further technological development, it was proved that a significant number of the skeletons are males. Both skeletal and material remains now suggest to scholars that Machu Picchu served as a royal retreat.

Importance and significance:

The Machu Picchu is considered by many as the most spectacular urban creation of the Inca Empire and one of the most important heritage sites in the world. Also, the cultural significance is tremendous; the citadel forms an incredible cultural meaning due to the connection it has with the other monuments, sites and complexes; and the way all the structures make sense with the environment itself. The site is made up of precincts, plazas, temples, tombs, rooms for storing food, stone canals and stairways and platforms, distributed on the topography of the mountain in a unique layout of urban design. The extreme perfection shown in the arrangement of the stones in order to maintain uniformity in the structures is totally unbelievable. Finally, the heritage of such an important and influential culture is beyond price and the window it offers us to the past is invaluable.
